we’re those people.

Not everyone is meant to have a “goals board” staring them smack in the face everyday. But, we have one.

This year, instead of writing a list of goals on a sheet of paper, we decided to put it on one of our walls in the office. Yep! This way, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t remember. I’m not saying that this will make us perfect. No, not at all. But, this will certainly help eliminate most excuses. Last year was pretty amazing and we can’t take any credit; God showed off big time. Our life is blessed beyond measure and that is all thanks to God’s provision of love, care, health and provision of finances.

I love it when I can find something I’d love to have from my Pinterest DIY board, and then convince my husband that we need it. Well, this was one of those exceptions. Ha. So, thanks to Shanty-2-Chic for this awesome DIY step by step guide! I think they made this into a family picture board, but I just totally knew it was exactly what we needed for our goals when I saw it. Our wall in the office had the space & my man has the talent! Tony tweaked some of the measurements and used a stain we preferred (aged wood), then, voila! Look at this thing. It’s just beautiful to look at it in the office and remember what it is we’re shooting for this year, in a nicely framed board.

I used twine to hang our goals on small note cards. The “Family Goals” letters I had in my craft closet from a previous trip to Target’s dollar section (don’t you love that little corner?) and finally put them to good use! The little clothes-pinned cards were made my me – I just had Tony and I write them down first and then I shortened the goals to give them catchy names or quick drawings, for a spiffier look. On the backside of the cards we’re keeping notes & progress. I must say, it’s been working out great and we’re still in March!

For now, I’ll just leave you with this to soak in. Family goals don’t have to be scary and hazardous. I’ve heard many pros and cons. For us, it’s always been so much fun! Reaching goals is like a game; you want to achieve all of your goals but you know there is always a chance that it will not happen & you’ve just got to be okay with that. The point is that you tried!

Weeknight Date!

It is a rainy day. I wish that true fall weather was here to stay. Due to the rain, I came home early from work and had some time to scribble a few things on here. I am expectant, y’all. No, not “expecting,” but expectant. Expectant for the next three months in our marriage life. As day-planner people that we are, Ruthie and I look forward to many things, and I am excited. But I’m getting a bit ahead of myself. Let’s live in the moment.

Here we are, mid-September, and it seems like everything fell into place nicely today. Is it a coincidence that last week Ruthie and I planned a date night tonight? Could it be a coincidence that Ruthie’s last day at her current job falls on the day that our Groupons to Studio Movie Grill expire? Could it be a coincidence that I received a mailed gift card a few days ago with enough money to take my wife out? Could it be…?

Well, tonight, we will celebrate! Celebrate our love. Celebrate our life. Celebrate our dreams. Celebrate every blessing we have. In the Providence of God, it seems that things fall into place in our least expected time. Tonight is one of those times. So, let me get ready before we go… celebrate!

Mr. Villatoro

… let’s try this again!

Well, January has now officially come and gone and we did not keep up with our weekly posts. Can I just say this? It is not as easy as it seems to write, I mean, you really have to sit down and make time for this. Which we haven’t done, but we will do! We’re making a schedule and will be posting more regularly starting… today.

Big things for January? 2 months of blissful married life with my wonderful husband. I know we’re still on our “honeymoon” phase but we’re enjoying it to the fullest! Ha. I’ve got to say, you never stop learning new things about your spouse when you’re in your first year… I’d guess you never stop learning at all, that’s what makes married life so interesting. I’m truly enjoying getting to know Tony, he’s quite amazing.

If when I began this blog I would’ve told you all the goals I had in mind for this year, this post would be quite incredible. It seems that God wants to show me He is my provider and He’s reminding me that I need to trust in Him. This month, after months of prayer (and at times frustration) over work life and setting aside aspirations and dreams, I received 5 completely different leads to new projects in one solid week; incredible doesn’t seem to do this justice. God is good!

One of my favorite parts about this new venture is that I don’t have to do it alone! When I married Tony I got two, not one, but two amazing and beautiful sisters-in-law. One of those amazing sisters is joining me. Rebecca is a wife and mother and I have tons to learn from her, but one of her other many talents includes sewing and craft-making. She is truthful but kind, patient and detailed, she truly balances my rush-rush, overly analytical, and side-tracked self which is an awesome thing. I’m so excited to get to start this year off with tons of projects, goals, and aspirations that will eventually launch out into a dream come true for Rebecca and I, as well as our families.

I’m looking forward to see how God’s purpose is fulfilled in my life! (Psalm 138:8, Tony and I’s favorite scripture.)

let us introduce ourselves.

Hello 2012, we are… The Villatoro’s!

We are so excited and anxious to see what God has for us this year. He has been amazing in 2011, in blessing us with a home, marriage, and health; we can only imagine 2012 will be even more amazing.

The Villatoro's - Engagement Photo (Courtney Griffin Photography)Today, we just want to introduce who The Villatoro’s are. We have known each other for over 10 years; we’ve dated for about 7 of those years, got engaged August 2011 and married November 27th, 2011 – on our 7 year anniversary. It was a quick engagement, we didn’t need anymore time keeping us away from blissful married life, it was an amazing engagement and wedding planning time. Thank God for Tony and his support throughout it ALL!

Ruthie is a Graphic Designer and lover of photography, we hope one day this will be a full-time (work from home) gig. You can follow some of her work on her Carbonmade site. While Ruthie’s the creative one in this little family, Tony is a church planter, a different kind of creative. He’s a strong-willed, smart and caring man who, since he was a young teen has always aspired to planting a church in Houston’s Spring Branch area. Glorious Grace Church is our home church, we officially launched October 30th, and we love the people God has placed to be a part of our church family.

Now, it’s 2012 and we can hardly wrap our heads around it – it’s really not a huge deal, but… it is! A new year means a fresh start, in our case, we’re making decisions and goals for our first year of marriage together, as one. We are so excited! As you can tell, one of our goals this year is to blog – yes, blog, we’re going old-school. Well, at least for our generation. We want to share stories, recipes, God things, art & design, photos and just anything that comes to mind. Facebook, we feel, has hindered our ability to really soak in a “moment” and share it to the fullest extent. Don’t get us wrong, we love Facebook (and are completely guilty of this) but we’re hoping that in blogging we can relish in those special moments just a bit longer.

Our goal is to update regularly, it’ll be awesome to see all the things from 2012 in 2013. We hope you enjoy this year with us…!
